He spent his formative years as a youth in Yugoslavia during the Communist-bloc era, where he became known for his early illustrations for comic books and magazines. His comics were then published internationally in \u003ci\u003eHeavy Metal, Metal Hurlant, \u003c\/i\u003e and Marvel's \u003ci\u003eEpic Illustrated, \u003c\/i\u003eamong others. Soon after he moved to the United States, he became the art director of \u003ci\u003eTIME \u003c\/i\u003emagazine's international edition and \u003ci\u003eThe New York Times\u003c\/i\u003e' op-ed pages. Throughout his illustrious career, Ilic has collaborated with design luminaries such as Steven Heller and Milton Glaser, including on \u003ci\u003eMilton Glaser: POP\u003c\/i\u003e (The Monacelli Press, 2023).
